An example of its ease of use: A handheld computer scanner and RFID tag reader verify that the correct asset is being worked on, the right tools are being used, records when the tasks are completed and updates the master maintenance records. Meanwhile, a portable printer will label the equipment thus documenting the work.

Mobile computers and printers provide field-service representatives with access to product information, customer data, record service activities, issue receipts and track inventory. Repair-service inefficiencies are eliminated by real-time dispatch communications which match parts and equipment with expert technicians, increasing first-call closure rate and customer satisfaction. GPS technology is also available for driving instructions and tracking individuals out in the field.
